Community Suicide Prevention hosts 14th walk to honor survivors of suicide loss

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - Many people will be making their way out to Community Park in Idaho Falls to honor those we have lost to suicide. The 14th annual Memorial Walk for Survivors of Suicide Loss is held Thursday night.

The walk will feature a remembrance ceremony and the dedication of a new bench and plaque. According to Community Suicide Prevention, 350 Idahoans die from suicide each year. The organization hopes the new bench can get people to start talking about suicide prevention.

"Suicide still has such a stigma to it," said Shelia Murdock, the chair of Community Suicide Prevention. "A lot of people don't like to talk about it or don't know how. By (having this bench), it's that time where they can gather together, feel each other's understanding, love and kinship. Without even knowing someone, you can really connect when you've had a similar loss."

The bench is being partially funded by Mountain View Charity.

The walk starts at 6:30 p.m. It will take place at the southwest corner of Community Park in Idaho Falls.
