Two Mile fire near Malad now 50 percent contained

MALAD, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - UPDATE:  7/10/19  9 a.m. The Two Mile fire has reached 146 acres and is 50 percent contained. Fire managers expect to see occasional torching of juniper. Helicopter water drops and a single engine air tanker were used on the fire Sunday.

The fire has increased to 146 acres and growing.

Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire crews are battling a human caused fire about one mile southeast of Malad on the Caribou-Targhee National Forest.   The fire started about 8 p.m. Saturday east of Interstate 15 near milepost 13.

The Two-Mile fire was burning in steep country and growing uphill.  It was initially estimated at 80 acres and growing.

Three engines, a dozer, and a water tender were posted on the fire overnight. Two helicopters, two 20-person hand crews, and an air attack team have been ordered Sunday.

Smoke from the fire could create a safety hazard along Interstate 15.
