MONTPELIER, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - UPDATE: 7-11 8:03 a.m.
Rocky Mountain Power says 1,489 customers in the Montpelier area have been affected by a power outage caused by the failure of a component in a power transformer.
The utility now estimates power will be fully restored by around 12:30 p.m. Thursday. In addition to Montpelier, it is also affecting people in the communities of Dingle, Paris, and Ovid.
A mobile substation was dispatched from Salt Lake City to the Montpelier substation early Wednesday evening. A replacement part was also transported. Once it arrives, Rocky Mountain Power said it typically takes about 8 hours to connect it to the local grid.
There might be some short outages to customers in the area as that component comes on line.
Rocky Mountain Power customers in parts of Bear Lake County are without power until Thursday afternoon.
The outage is affecting 2,141 customers.
Crews are on the scene right now.
According to the Rocky Mountain Power website, the cause is a substation problem.
