POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - The man suspected of shooting a couple in Pocatello appeared in court Wednesday. Steven Holmes, 32, of Pocatello, is being charged with two counts of felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon in connection with the shooting.

Both the state and defendant's attorney decided to reconvene in a two-week continuance of Holmes’s preliminary hearing. Holmes is due back in court on Aug. 28 at 10:30 a.m. for a decision on whether there is enough evidence to go to trial.

Holmes faces charges of two counts of felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, each punishable for up to 15 years in prison 30 years in total.

The shooting happened July 30 around 12:45 p.m. in an alley behind 424 N 10th Avenue in Pocatello, said police.
Damien and Erika Farnworth were sitting in their car when the shooter asked them for a lighter, said. When they refused and asked him to leave their backyard, the man shot the couple, piercing each of them with one bullet.

Holmes was later arrested in connection with the shooting.

Damien and Erika Farnsworth both received immediate medical care at Portneuf Medical Center. Both have since been released after treatment of their wounds.
